Stretching before and after a workout session, getting out of bed or at any time of day is vastly underrated.
Often I have had clients, even former Olympic swimmers never incorporate stretching into their #workouts and it led to serious complications later with posture and eventually bone structure.
The following are some noticeable benefits of stretching:
1. Increases your flexibility:
Daily stretching will provide this improved range of motion that provides greater freedom of movement, which in turn minimizes the stress you place on crucial areas such as your back or hips and knees.
2. Improve physical performance:
Whether it be an intense sports as football or rugby to something more subtle as golf. Being able to utilize your body to it’s maximum would be key to getting the best results, you wouldn’t be as good of a golfer if you can’t follow through on your swing now can you?
3. Faster recovery time:
Stretching increases blood flow to the muscles, in doing so, delivers nutrients such as amino acids faster which help rebuild any torn or sore muscles you may be suffering from.
4. Helps Heal and Prevent Back Pain:
This one hits me personally as I pulled my back out once and was injured for about 2 months. Struggled to regain confidence lifting weights for a while after this and constant stretching has helped prevent it from happening again whilst allowing me to go back into weightlifting exercises #painfree.
5. Stress relief:
Tense muscles often lead to stress, relaxing them can help clear your mind and body. While performing the stretches, also try to focus on the stretch itself, to prevent thoughts from wondering into areas that could influence negative thoughts and negate the benefits of the process.
